New Plaster Start-Up

"Like New" is just a few steps away!

It's very exciting to see your old, stained, and worn out pool suddenly become practically new again! But after the new pristine surface has been laid, there is a procedure that must be followed to ensure that the plaster sets properly.

Procedures

  • Do not allow anyone to swim in the pool during the curing process.
  • Fill the pool completely as quickly as possible without stopping.
  • When the pool is filled, turn on the pumps, add sequestrant, calcium hardener (200 ppm), cyanuric acid (30 - 50 ppm), stain and scale control. Return the pool water to the correct pH balance (7.4 - 7.6) and sanitizer level.
  • Do not add calcium hypochlorite (shock) to the pool for the first 7 days.
  • Brush the entire surface of the pool at least once a day for the first week. After the first week, brush the pool at least once per week.
  • If you have a salt water pool, do not add salt or turn on the chlorine generator for the first 30 days.
  • Do not use any automatic pool cleaners.
  • Backwash the filter once a day to clear out plaster dust.
  • After 7 to 10 days, vacuum all of the plaster powder from the surface of the pool.

After 7 to 10 days of following these procedures, your pool should be ready to open for residents. Continue having the pool maintained as you normally would, making sure to keep the correct chemical levels and regularly removing debris, to keep the plaster looking clean and new for years to come.
